Launched in June 2016, OSCAR analyses greenhouse gas emissions associated with postal activities making special emphasis on products that include both domestic and international mail, parcels and Express Mail Service.

This is not limited to mail and parcels as sources such as transport, buildings and waste resulting from postal activities are also assessed.

“BotswanaPost’s participation in this exercise is a testament of its high regard of carrying out operations in an environment-friendly way and speaks volume to its aim of being a responsible operator,” said acting marketing and communications general manager, Joyce Manase – Ntau.

“This allows BotswanaPost to implement reduction measures if there are cases of unhealthy levels of greenhouse gas emissions.”

As climate change becomes an ever-increasing burning topic, it is imperative for all corporate citizens to take cognisance of their contribution in alignment with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Global Reporting Initiative.

According to UPU, Posts also have access to 20 Carbon Key Performance Indicators through the tool, such as carbon per letter and carbon per kilometre driven, allowing them to benchmark their progress against other Posts in their region, development bracket, or in the industry as a whole.
