On Monday when addressing a Kgotla meeting at Monarch location, Moswaane deviated from the normal protocol.

Instead of solely focusing on briefing members about development activities in the constituency, the legislator took the time to sell his BDP primary election bid, which is likely to cause tension between himself and his primary election opponents in the constituency.

Moswaane is scheduled to face Gregory Kealotswe, Tebogo Toteng and Raoboy Mpuang at the BDP primaries.

“The primaries are on August 11, 2018. I plead with you to go and vote for me. Know that you are going to vote Moswaane only. I am just giving you a message. Nna mos ke mo teng (I am already in),” Moswaane told dozens of attendees at the meeting.

The MP has in recent weeks been accused of using Kgotla meetings to solidify his campaign for the primaries.

Yesterday, Moswaane said that he does not see anything wrong with his remarks.

“I will be busy with parliamentary activities from next week. That is why I saw the need to use the meeting to inform my constituents about my interest in the primaries. I may not have an opportunity to see them again before the primaries.”

“Being busy with Parley activities will also hinder me from campaigning, so I wanted them to understand that if they do not see me during campaigns they should know that I am busy.”

The BDP chairperson for the Francistown region, Baemedi Medupi said in relation to procedures of contesting the upcoming primaries: “The party is yet to sanction campaigns for the August primaries.

The process of selecting those interested in the primaries is also yet to be carried out. If at all there are those who are campaigning, or have declared their candidacy before the approval of the party, that is unfortunate”.

Medupi said that if there is evidence that some people are illegally campaigning in the constituency, the party would take an appropriate remedial action.
