Branch proved once again that he is the king of the desert when he won the 1000 Desert Race here over the weekend. Branch who also won last year’s event ensured that he remains at the top with two more races left before the end of the year.

He beat South Africa’s Kenny Gilbert  and Brett Swanepoel who finished in second and third positions respectively. “It was a very good race but also tough.

This morning I took control and injoyed it,” Branch told Monitor Sport yesterday after his victory. He said the competition becomes tough every year, with different riders coming in and giving him a challenge.

“There were 100 guys behind me when we started this morning, so it was tough. But I enjoyed it because I love racing in front of my home crowd. They kept me going along the track,” he said.

Branch said the victory is good for him since he will retain the lead but said he does not want to be carried away since there are two more races left.

“We have done four rounds this year and there are two more left. I am sitting in a good position at the moment, but there are two more left,” he said. He added  that he will take the last two races as they come and see how it ends.
