Russell Gorezara was, together with other drivers, transporting the vehicles from Zimbabwe to South Africa, through Botswana when they got involved in a pile-up accident on Friday night near Artesia along A1 Road, 80km from Gaborone.

Gorezara owns two vehicles, a Porche and Range Rover, while the Rolls Royce belongs to his mother.

Eyewitnesses said the Rolls Royce, which was damaged on the rear bumper apparently from a separate accident, was being transported by a flatbed tow truck when a Toyota Corolla of the Pelican Moving company slammed onto the two other vehicles (a Range Rover and Porsche) from behind while trying to avoid a collision with some cattle on the road.

The Porche and Range Rover were kept overnight at the Mochudi police station during he police investigations while the Rolls Royce was spotted in Phakalane on Saturday.

Mochudi police acting station commander, Wazha Zambezi said there were no other issues regarding the impounded vehicles, other than the accident investigation.

'There are no issues with the vehicles, other than that we are still investigating the cause of the accident,' Zambezi said.

There was controversy surrounding the transportation of the vehicles over the weekend as the Zimbabwean media reported that the expensive vehicles were briefly detained at the Plumtree border post before being allowed to proceed, amid fears they were being spirited out to the neighbouring country.

The former First Lady's sons have been accused of living in opulence while millions of Zimbabweans wallow in poverty, with an average person living on $1 per day.
