Addressing a Kgotla meeting in Mochudi recently, Sekai said authorities had briefed them that they were concerned by the high rate of Dikgosana who drink alcohol.

“The reason why I asked that we mark a register before the meeting commenced was to see which Dikgosana attended the meeting.  Authorities have told me that a lot of our Dikgosana are drunkards and we will take action against them if they continue.  They work 24/7 and should never be found by clients at any time drunk,” he said.

Sekai said the reason why some of the wards were not represented was because even though their Dikgosana were told, they chose to indulge in alcohol and not spread the message or even attend meetings. As we did today, we will continue registering attendance and those who do not attend will be dealt with,” he said.

Sekai said it did not make sense that the government paid them for getting drunk while their Dikgotlana are falling apart with lawlessness. Sekai told of how he one day looked for one of the Dikgosana only to be told he was at some bar.

“When I got there, he hid in the toilet and I was told he was not there. Someone then tipped me (off) that he was in the toilets and I found him in there hiding behind the door drunk. That must come to an end or else they will have to be fired,” he said.

On other issues, Sekai said he has realised that some bad habits had developed during his absence and called on Dikgosana to shun women who dress inappropriately at their offices.

“They wear very short and tight dresses which can lead to Dikgosana being distracted. I therefore call on you Dikgosana not to assist any woman wearing tight short dresses in your offices,” he said.

Sekai also called for peace amongst Bakgatla stating that those who had doubts that he was the rightful leader should hold their peace as he was chosen by Kgosikgolo Kgafela to look after them.

“I call for peace amongst us as Bakgatla. We should focus on uniting and building our Morafe and not on who is the rightful Kgosi. You all know that we have only one Kgosikgolo in Kgafela, and I will rule until he tells me to step aside,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kgafela’s brothers were also called upon to attend Kgotla meetings. Kgosi Segale in his introduction remarks called on Kgafela’s brother Mmusi Kgafela to encourage his brothers to attend Kgotla meetings, as they were important.

Making their comments, Bakgatla called on their Kgosi to address the issue of noise raised by bars when their children needed to study.

They called on Sekai to reconsider the issue of corporal punishment. He, however, told them that he was jailed for corporal punishment and promised to call a meeting on how they could best deal with the issue of indiscipline in the village.
