Mabaila triumphs over veterans Masimolole and Kgang

He will represent the BDP in the 2019 general elections.
Youthful Mabaila won what was expected to be a two horse race between him and Kgang with ease.
He garnered 1,227 votes while the second best candidate, Mogogi Tshiamo got 390 votes. Former legislator, Masimolole managed 350 votes while Emmanuel Otisitswe got only 80 votes.
The 30-year-old has been accused by the other candidates of canvassing votes, using the Tshephang Mabaila Foundation to donate goodies to residents. Kgang even wrote to the party complaining that Mabaila was tarnishing his image while campaigning.
At the counting centre, only Mabaila and Kgang were in the crowd. The announcement of results around 03:30 saw his fans lift him up and sang celebratory songs.
In his short acceptance speech, Mabaila urged democrats to work with him in regaining the constituency they lost to the Umbrella for Democratic Change.
Kweneng East Regional chairperson, Peter Tumedi however, lamented the poor turnout. “We had over 5,000 people in the voters’ roll but just over 2,000 people voted. Go out there and call on other democrats that we need them to help win our constituency back,” he said.
