Bakgatla Asked To Pray Against Rising Murder Cases

Sekai who was speaking at the funeral of Mochudi East legislator Isaac Davids said he had organised for pastors from different churches to come together at the Kgotla and pray for murders taking place in the village.
“We have lost our legislator to a knife.Just last week we heard of Jafta Radibe’s son being killed with a knife at Molapo Crossing in Gaborone. We also laid to rest a 26-year young man who was killed by fellow Bakgatla last week.
This is worrisome and we need to come together as Bakgatla and pray,’ he said. Sekai, who was recently re-instated, also cautioned men who came to funerals without jacket that soon they will not be allowed into funerals as it is against the Setswana culture.
On his relations with the deceased legislator, Sekai left mourners in stitches as he narrated of a 1965 incident when Davids, who was well known for physical confrontations hit him with a brick on the head while they went swimming in a stream.
On a sombre note, Sekai said Davids played a crucial role in having him reinstated.
“He honoured bogosi and played a role in the reconciliation process between Bakgatla and the government. He also loved our Kgosikgolo so much that he never missed a meeting called by him in Moruleng,” he said.
Like many other speakers, including Moyo Guma, Duke Lefhoko, Matshediso Kowa, Ndaba Gaolathe, Gilbert Mangole and Davids’ daughter Puleng, Sekai described Davids as a big-hearted straight talker who was not intimidated by anyone.
Guma called on Batswana to follow laid down processes when they have grievances. “Human life is sacred and should not be taken away. We need to condemn the violence we see in our society.
There is a need for us to evaluate and restore our values as a nation that values human life,” he said. Guma also praised Davids for being a loving husband and a dedicated family man who took care of his family’s needs.
The funeral was attended by multitudes who included the Vice President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, Cabinet ministers, legislators, members from across the political divide in the country, former legislators, Dikgosi and ordinary Batswana. Davids was allegedly stabbed to death by his two farm workers in Sorilatholo settlement last week Sunday.
