Security owner granted bail in murder case

The state alleges that Tabona Lingani, 32, murdered his ex-girlfriend, Lesego Kgosidiile at Phutiyashalala cattlepost near Bobonong village on February 19, 2013.

He allegedly stabbed Kgosidiile with a knife on the chest and arms.

At the time the incident allegedly happened, Lingani was an owner of a security company based in Gaborone and had employed Kgosidiile as one of his security officers.

Lingani is also facing a single count of unlawfully wounding Keitumetse Madumela with a knife on the same day he allegedly murdered Kgosidiile.

Attorney Kesegofetse Molosiwa applied for Lingani’s bail to which Justice Barnabas Nyamadzabo granted on condition that the accused should bind himself with P1,000, bring two sureties who shall each bind themselves with P1,000, report at Mogoditshane Police Station once in a month and appear in court as and when required to do so.

According to a sworn statement from Kgosidiile’s aunt, Johanna Ramarumo, Kgosidiile always complained that Lingani threatened to kill her and was not paying her as per her employment contract.

Ramarumo’s statement partly reads: “… As I was busy ploughing, I saw Keitumetse Madumela running towards me holding a knife.  I then asked her what happened and she explained that Lingani had killed Kgosidiile with a knife and had fled. Madumela was also wounded on her arm. She explained that she sustained the wound as she was trying to stop Lingani from stabbing Kgosidiile.”

Counsel Moatlhodi Macheng, who did not oppose Lingani being granted bail appeared for the state.
