BCA strives for improved fortunes in 2018

However, the association this year is determined to turn 2018 into their year of success.

The Under-19 boys failed to qualify for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup currently being played in New Zealand. The senior men’s side also fell short in its attempt to qualify for the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Five in South Africa.

The women’s side, however, fared better after finishing second during the BCA Women’s Annual International T20 Tournament.

Sumod Damodar, BCA secretary for fixtures and publicity told Mmegi Sport they fell short in some tournaments. Damodar said players should be highly motivated, push themselves harder and honour the spirit of representing the country.

He said this year, the association seeks to intensify training and increase the prevalence of training camps to boost the players’ performances.

“It is imperative that we overcome the difficulties and challenges that we face. Our performance is not satisfactory and that is a challenge that needs to be addressed,” Damodar said.

He said that although the association has not been performing well, there is light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully luck will be on their side this year.

“There’s a lot of potential, we just need persistent effort, which will improve players’ skills,” Damodar said.

The association is focusing more on young talent, in order to introduce the players to the sport at a young age.

The Botswana Cricket Association is a three-time winner of the BNSC code of the year award for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Meanwhile, the new cricket season begins in February.
