In a press statement, Joy Foundation said the one-day tournament would be held on July 29, 2017 in Francistown. The first match starts at 10am.

“For this tournament, the supporters will be engaged directly on the selection of the starting 11 by voting through SMS. The players with the most votes will feature in the starting 11.

The lines for voting will be open from July 1.  In Zimbabwe the fans have already started voting,” Joy Foundation said in a media release following a press briefing in Gaborone this week.

Supa Power Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairperson, Sakaeyo Jannie said the choice of teams was based on different reasons. He said Mochudi Centre Chiefs were chosen because it is from Kgatleng where the sports facility will be developed henceforth it is an immediate team that will benefit from the facility.

He noted that they also chose TAFIC, because the LOC has partnered with Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA), which TAFIC affiliate to. Jannie said TAFIC has been promoted to the Premier League and command a larger following in the host town of Francistown.

When addressing the media, founder of Joy Foundation, Joy Setshedi stated that the aim of the tournament is to raise funds for the development of a sports academy in Mochudi, Dinkgwana Ward.

She noted that the Foundation has acquired a piece of land measuring 5.6 hectares, which will be developed into a multi-facet sports facility for nurturing of both the boy and girl child.  Setshedi highlighted that they will make the Supa Power Cup an annual tournament.

Teams will benefit with an appearance fee of P5,000 per player and will also have a share from the proceeds of SMS voting revenue.  Each team will be allowed to bring a maximum of 23 players. The draw will be conducted on July 7.
