Army investigates soldier for pawning BDF band equipment

Mmegi has learnt that the officer holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and also the leader of school of music allegedly stole and pawned BDF band equipment.

He is currently being investigated by the organisation’s military police following the claims.

The director of Protocol and Public Affairs Lieutenant Colonel Fikani Machola confirmed the allegations when responding to a Mmegi questionnaire on the matter.

He stated that there are allegations implicating one of their officers with a criminal offence related to ‘stealing by person employed in the public service’.

“We regret that we cannot comment further on the matter since investigations are currently at preliminary stages.  Albeit, the BDF takes issues related to service property seriously and has internal controls and mechanisms, which are aimed at ensuring the safety of the same,” Machola’s response reads.
