Barata-Phathi drafts constitution for new party

In an interview with Mmegi, the faction's spokesman, Sidney Pilane, said they are preparing to register the party with the Registrar of Societies anytime soon.

When asked when the decision was made to form the party, he said, 'That decision was made on March 20 this year. Since then we have been preparing for the formation of the party. At the moment I can't tell you the name of the party as it will be announced later,' he said.

Just hours before the faction's meeting yesterday night where Barata-Phathi were expected to consolidate their efforts to forming the new party, Pilane revealed that they would also discuss the issue surrounding their member, Kweneng South East MP, Edward Raletobana's meeting with BDP president, Ian Khama. Raletobane's move has been viewed with suspicion by Barata-Phathi as they believe this could mean that he is defecting from them.

'He will tell us what he is doing, why he is doing it and of course he will hear what we have to say about his actions,' he told Mmegi.

When Mmegi reminded him about the intention of the ruling party to discipline them for dissidency, he replied; 'I have already said before that by getting involved in the founding of a new party, I ceased to be a member of the BDP. As far as I am concerned I am no longer a member of the BDP,' he said.
