Real name Maureen Maila, Bouncy told Showbiz in an interview that their song was a turn up song about a couple that had complications in their relationship.

“In this song, the man feels he does not deserve to date his girlfriend while the girlfriend also feels the same,” she said. Bouncy goes to the extent of telling the guy that they cannot go on with the relationship because she does not deserve to be with him,” she said.

Bouncy explained that the single was recorded at Heartbeats Studios with the assistance of Press Beats and Bangu. She said Side1 was a testimony of her growth from that raunchy young girl into a more mature young woman who intends to start her music career on a clean slate.

The singer said she recently rebranded herself into a more mature look, both through her lyrics and appearance. “I want to have a more mature look. All this time I have been trying to find myself and always failed. This time around I have found myself and decided to look decent and clean for my fans.

I have also changed the way I used to sing and have tried as much as possible to fuse my Setswana language into most of my songs. In my previous songs, my fans would ask me to add a little bit of Setswana to my songs and I am proud that I was able to fulfill their wishes,” she said.

Being a woman in an industry that is dominated by men and generally seems to be demeaning to women, especially with regards to the lyrics of some rap songs, Bouncy has always proved to be a force to reckon with. She says that in order to spread her wings wider, she has decided to feature as many local artists as possible irrespective of their music genre.

She said she would like to see herself collaborating with various artists from other music genres such as traditional music, kwaito, Afro pop, RnB and others. She further pointed out that she does not want to limit herself and would like to see herself making it in the international entertainment industry.

Having proved that she can be Botswana’s Beyoncé or Nicky Minaj, this young artist is determined to work hard in order to achieve her dreams of being a rapper and an actress.

She said even though the local entertainment industry makes it hard for local artists to make a living through it, she was determined to fight as hard as possible to achieve her dreams.

“I feel that most of the local artists we find it hard to maintain our looks because people are not willing to pay us for the prices we charge. For me to look this glamorous is expensive, and I can’t take a public transport to my desired destination. If I don’t have a car I need to at least use a cab to keep the momentum,” she said. She added that she would like to see herself being one of the renowned artists in Hollywood in the future.
