Talented artist aspires for greatness

She told Showbiz in an interview that she was inspired by the field of art in general; the way it brings out the best creativity out of people and how fashion is taking over in the arts industry in Botswana.

“I am very passionate about fashion therefore I introduced a fashion trend of customising clothes with cultural fabrics. I combine these fabrics with sweaters, t-shirts, pants, jackets and I also create dresses out of t-shirts,” she said. Tlholwe said other people’s work is her inspiration in art.

She said she gets motivation to do more and usually redesigns and modifies the art pieces to produce what she considers the best.  “As this is my first ever edition of Glamlook, I decided to register for the Youth Expo recently and it really gave my brand a great platform of exposure. Ever since then I have been invited to fashion shows to showcase my work.

I post my work on social media as well as other media of advertising and the response is priceless; people applaud my efforts,” she said. Tlholwe said her challenge is lack of funds to expand her business and she used a lot of money towards the establishment of her company.

“Another challenge is that as a young woman trying to make it, people take advantage especially men who usually try to trick us. I honestly ensure that I maintain focus, refuse temptations as I want to work hard and empower those who look up to me,” she said.

Tlholwe said she also draws and she is part of Batsha Art Group. “I dance to hip-hop and have performed in many events like BOMU Awards, YAMA Awards mostly as a backup dancer for Kast, Licky, Vee, Bk Proctor as well as Bang Gae,” she said.

'I have big plans. I am currently working on a project that will incorporate both my skills of fashion design and dance and I’m excited,” she said.  She advised other artists to be passionate about their work, refrain from laziness, always let their work be adventurous as the future is unpredictable and most importantly to avoid regrets.
