Speaking to Mmegi Sport on Tuesday, Drago as he is popularly known, said the two parties failed to agree on his wage demands.

“The problem was the salary is too small. I talked to the chairman. I waited for three days, he did not say anything. I have been in Botswana for four years. I have been to GU (Gaborone United), (Mochudi Centre) Chiefs, Extension Gunners and Sankoyo (Bush Bucks), but I have never received a good salary. I am not a small boy anymore,” Stanojlovic said.

He further said the club failed to guarantee that he will be paid well on time unlike in the previous teams.

“I have been here for a long time now. I now understand the language, the culture and the football played in the league. I do not have a problem with going to TAFIC, but they did not guarantee who will pay me,” he said.

Drago is currently club-less after helping Sankoyo Bush Bucks avoid relegation. He said he expressed interest in the vacant Township Rollers job, but denied that the club has appointed him as the new technical director.

“No, I have not heard from Rollers, but I handed in an application.  I understand that Botswana teams like doing things at the last minute but as of now they have not talked to me (yet),” he said.

The 60-year-old also revealed that he has interest from Uganda and Zimbabwe, but would like to stay in Botswana at the moment. “The president of one of the big clubs in Zimbabwe called and asked for my CV (Curriculum Vitae). I also received calls from Uganda, but I love Botswana. I want to stay if a better offer is made, I will stay,” he said.

The passionate mentor also said he has his eyes on the vacant Zebras post.

“I will give in an application once they start looking for a coach. I’m experienced, I have been around. I think I can coach the national team,” he said.

Drago arrived in Botswana in 2013 when Chiefs recruited him.  Due to poor performances, the club suspended him for six months before being dismissed in 2014.

He had a stint at Gunners before being roped in by GU in 2015 as a technical director before assuming the head coach’s role after Rahman Gumbo left.

He was appointed head coach of Ngurungu at the start of the 2016-2017 season and helped the club finish 12th with 33 points despite dire financial conditions at the club.
