NWYC Local Organising Committee (LOC) general manager, Tebogo Kesupile has called on Batswana to buy the tickets. It is just over two weeks before the country hosts the first ever world netball competition in Africa.  “At this stage, I would like to encourage Batswana to buy the tickets since they are already in shops, especially Spar shops,” Kesupile said.

She said it would be disappointing for Batswana to fail to attend games simply because fans from other countries had snapped all the tickets online. She added that at the moment the ticket sales are slow. “Let’s not wait until it is late, because the tickets are still available even online through Web ticket,” she said. Meanwhile, the trophy and the games mascot Naletsana began a 10-day countrywide tour to ramp up the hype ahead of the competion. Unfortunately, the team would be absent as it intensify training, but the squad will join the tour in Francistown. Speaking during the trophy tour launch yesterday, Botswana Netball Association president, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the trophy carries a lot of history because there were some new changes that were made for the 2017 games.

“The International Netball Federation (INF) made several changes around the 2017 games. At first, the tournament was called the Netball World Youth Championships and they changed the trophy that was used. This trophy is used for the first time, which makes it special in that the country which will win it, would be part of the trophy’s history,” Lebotse-Sebego said.

She said before, countries that participated in the finals were those that could afford, but qualifiers were introduced for the first time.

She said the purpose of the trophy tour is to involve all Batswana to be part of the games. Senior national team player, Samantha Mbakile will lead the tour. Today, the trophy is expected to be in Mahalapye and will move to Serowe, Selebi-Phikwe, Francistown, Letlhakane, Maun, Gantsi, Jwaneng and Molepolole before returning to Gaborone on July 30.
