One of the teams that have been hit hard by the transfer window is Police Women’s team. The side have lost about five senior players and a coach.

However they did not keep their heads down when they faced their cross town rivals, Bears. The match started on a low note with both sides finding it difficult to score. Bears were the first to bat through Bonolo Molefe who was given a free base after three strikes by Police pitcher.

There was confusion in the first base after Bosa Matshega hit a long ball and by the time it was caught, she found her teammate in the same base.

A decision was taken for Matshega to stay and her teammate was sacrificed. Bears ended the inning without a point.

Police finally broke the ice by the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead. The points were scored by Tshepho Letsholo, Segolame Raesima, Keabetswe Mhotsha and Tshotlhe Mokalake.

The lead frustrated their opponents forcing them to commit ball handling mistakes. Bears finally made it 4-1 through Karabo Sheilah. Bears were gaining confidence and managed to get another point to end the inning at 4-2. That did not scare the young Police squad as they also bounced back to score and extend the margin to 5-2.

Gosalamang Mogotsi hit a long ball that outfielders failed to catch. The move saw Police scoring two points at the same time.

With the score at 7-2, it was clear there was no way Bears could come back into the match. Police were now comfortable with Monei Kgosidintsi making it home to end the game at 8-2.

Speaking to Sport Monitor afterwards, Bears’ coach, Nnana Lebeko said the match did not go according to plan because her players were not settled. She said Police were not a threat as they were not hitting.

“My players made some mistakes. We are not used to that. Our shot stopper was off the game. She is usually reactive. Pitching was not a problem, they had closed Police,” she said.

Lebeko said so far they have lost one player and signed two players from Comets and BMC. She said it was still early to say they have kept players because the window is not closed yet.

Police coach, Tawina Phibion said it was difficult to play because the pitch was slow. He said they took time to adjust. He said they have lost three players being Mantho Mojeremane (pitcher) and Kagiso Lowang (pitcher) to Phanthers while the other pitcher player went to Titans.
