VS Returns With Ego

Born Mpho Kalayamotho, the rapper has been on self-imposed exile from the music circles since his previous O Icheke album, which was a popular song in the country.

Despite going on a self-seeking or spiritual path as he says, the artist has not lost his touch and concept of capturing real life events in his music.

Ego, the song, has similar storyline as O Icheke even though the latter was based more on hype.

Released on January 23, 2018, the Ego music video already has over 200 views on YouTube and looks set to go the same heights as his previous hit song. In the music video, which was shot by Torch Films, VS narrates real things that have become the order of the day in the city.

He talks of corrupt activities by those with power and people who help others for sexual favours.

The song also talks about people who use illegal means to elevate themselves in life such as selling drugs. The music video features some of the industry’s popular names such as Zenzele Hirschfeld and the MMP family crew.

“Ego is based on exposing the truth. It is about real life events. It talks about the power that the rich guys in the city have and how they use it. I like songs that make people see visuals when they listen to it before they could even see the music video,” Kalayamotho told Showbiz.

The rapper assured his fans that he will be releasing more songs in the year based on real life stories meant to build and empower people with knowledge.

“In April, I will be releasing my album called Building Material which is based on real stories. We are also looking at introducing a movie based on this concept,” he added.

He stated that he has chosen the kind of music that would impact people’s lives and could be his legacy.

He said the movie trailer would be ready at the time when he launches his album in April. VS features Tshepo Lesole, who also produced the song.
