Performing artists Leshie Lovesong and comic Bambino will stage poetry and comedy respectively on Thursday night. Friday will be the theatre night with Tefo Paya staging his one-man show, Morwa, the Rising Son and Born Around Here showcasing on the same night.

The two theatre plays and Bambino’s performance take place after spending a long time not performing on any high profile stage.   “All the four productions have been invited to perform in South Africa at the Vrystaat Arts Festival next month.

So we have these two nights as performance rehearsals and also as a fundraising platform to raise funds that will assist with the South African trip,” said Teto Mokaila, who is part of the Born around here cast.

They are scheduled to perform from July 16-19. The Vrystaat Arts Festival, which takes place in Bloemfontein, features a number of productions that have the likes of John Kani on stage. This is not the first time when all the four productions perform at an international stage. “It’s an honour to receive invitations from such festivals.

It shows that we are producing high quality productions. It is yet another opportunity for Batswana artists to go out of the country and fly the flag not only for the arts but the country.

It’s one of the reasons why we need the support of ministries, individuals and companies because we are representing the country and tell stories about Batswana,” said Mokaila who pleaded for sponsorship.

Despite the two theatre productions having been showcased before in the country, Mokaila noted that there will be a number of surprises and new twists on both productions. The venue is UB Block 253/001.
