BONA gives netball squad thumbs up

The Under-21 technical team had selected and submitted the names to BONA for final consideration. The final squad has 12 players and three reserves, selected soon after the team’s arrival from a training camp in Singapore.
BONA vice president-technical, Lorato Thebekgosi told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they had submitted their explanations on the selection to the mother body, and BONA did not make any alterations.
The team’s coach, Botlhole Mmopi said she is happy with the final squad and they believe they will leave lasting impressions during the tournament. “I am happy with how the girls have been responding to the training programme and their performances during the matches they played so far,” Mmopi said.
With 17 days to go before the tournament, the team is in South Africa for further preparations, with no injuries to the selected side. Botswana is in Pool C with Jamaica, Cook Islands, Uganda and Malaysia.
The hosts play Malaysia on the opening day on July 8 at the University of Botswana court. Meanwhile, the senior team will participate in the 2017 Africa Netball Championship to be held in Uganda.
The tournament that has attracted six countries; Botswana, Uganda, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe starts on Saturday.
