Police record 20 fatal accidents over the weekend

From January 26 to 28, 2018 at least 20 people died in 10 different fatal road accidents nationally.

Police spokesperson senior superintendent Near Bagali said of one of the accidents, six people died when a combi carrying 14 passengers overturned along Bobonong and Semolale road on Sunday. “Three passengers sustained serious injuries while four escaped with minor injuries,” Bagali said.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested five suspects for shop breaking, unlawful possession of dagga and unlawful importation of tobacco that occurred in Gaborone and Lobatse.

In one incident, Woodhall police arrested a 37-year-old Zimbabwean man after he was found in possession of large quantities of tobacco, which they suspect he unlawfully imported into the country. 

According to police, the man was found in possession of 10 boxes of 50 cartons of tobacco estimated at the value of P100,000.  The police have also seized the vehicle he was using.
