Khama in relation to his retirement home in Mosu has been under investigation for alleged abuse of office, public funds and resources following a complaint lodged by the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

The BCP had complained that the President had abused his office by using public resources to build his Mosu home.

The Ombudsman, Augustine Makgonatsotlhe in a released statement said he did not find any wrongdoing in what BCP alleged against the statesman.

He explained that the investigation focused on three main allegations, among others being raised, the alleged use of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) to build Mosu, use of public resources like employing BDF and using their equipment.

In his reasons he explained that the complaints lacked merit and had no evidence, and that as for the airstrip, it was done at a cost for the nation consistent with past practice for Head of State.

“No clear injustice to the complainants in their own right or a political party representing the interests of members of the public has been shown to have occurred,” he said.

Instead, Makgonatsotlhe accused the BCP of seemingly abusing the process of his office as most of the complaints brought forward by the party precede some of the previous general elections.
