Apart from his bad pronunciation of words in his rather improved Setswana, Khama seemingly had a package for the villagers towards the end of his official address, which has become similar across villages and towns, albeit with slight adjustments.

Most importantly, after carefully listening to Kgosi Maruje III and Tati West MP Biggie Butale introducing their ‘beautiful wives’ Khama started taking his notes.

With a rather serious demeanour, Khama who has a penchant for making major policy announcements at kgotla meetings including policy shifts, chose to crack his usual jokes.

Perhaps, it is not even what he says that leaves people spellbound but rather simply how he conveys his message.

Just sample this. “After April 1, 2018 I will ask Kgosi Maruje III and MP Butale to help me look for a beautiful wife also.”

This left villagers ululating, clapping and whistling in excitement.

This statement, unexpected as it seemed to the throngs of villagers who had come to bid their President farewell, left the whole meeting in a fit of endless laughter.

Coming from Africa’s most eligible bachelor President, the villagers could not help it but engage in incessant laughter.

“As you know, my job took me to different villages and towns across the length and breath of this country, I didn’t have a chance to look for a beautiful wife also,” he said to another irresistible round of laughter.

He added: “ I will also join the ranks of those who have beautiful wives”.

Khama will be remembered for his remarks that attracted raving media reviews when he presented his choice of a wife sometime in 2010 as, “tall, slim and good-looking and not a fat one”.

In other reports, Khama has been spotted with a ‘girlfriend’ Yarona Sharp, but it remains to be seen whether that’s the one he will tie the knot with after April 1, 2018.
