Speaking at the first Ntlo Ya Dikgosi meeting today, Kgathi said he was aware that police station offices and officers’ houses were in a bad shape and therefore in the scooping process he and the Police Commissioner toured a number of stations across Gaborone to see how bad the situation was.

“Police stations across the country need revamping and maintenance. We have started a scoping exercise to assess the extent and level of maintenance in police stations so that we can factor that in the upcoming budget.

A bulk of the upcoming budget in the next financial year must be reserved for maintenance because I don’t see the use of building facilities only to let them collapse,” he said.

He added that minor maintenance work of police stations was undertaken to keep the facility in a habitable state, which includes plumbing, electrical systems, roof leakages and others.

Kgathi was responding to Kgosi Colly Cock of Thamaga who wanted the minister to explain when he would maintain the Thamaga Police Station and staff houses.
