MoBE urged to admit Ramaphatle students into boarding schools

Speaking at the ongoing Ntlo Ya Dikgosi meeting today, Cock said the students were forced to walk 18 kilometres daily arguing that this could deter their learning.

He also emphasised that not all parents could afford to give their children transport fees to go to school.

When responding to Cock’s plea, Basic Education assistant minister, Moiseraele Goya said the ministry was aware of the issue of distance between Ramaphatle and Thamaga.

He pointed out that Kweneng region had three boarding schools namely Motswahumo, Matsheng Junior Secondary Schools and Mahupu Unified School, which were all near capacity. He, however, said they would engage the parents of those learners and see how best they could assist them with the possibility of placing their children in boarding schools.

“In the meantime, as Ramaphatle is situated where there is frequent transport to Thamaga, parents are encouraged to use public transport to Thamaga. We have talked to the regional education office to assess the situation,” Goya said.
