Alleged Cop Killer Granted Bail

The state alleges that Bongani Solomon (36) murdered Daniel Mooketsi, (26) at his Block 4 rented residence towards the end of May. Mooketsi was based at the Francistown Central police station and was found by his girlfriend when she returned from work hanging from the rafters of his house.

The police are still investigating his mysterious death and so far sources close to the case have said Solomon is the only person of interest being investigated in connection with the matter. Solomon was denied bail during his initial appearance in court because investigations into the matter were fresh.

Solomon’s attorney Mbiganyi Mhizha told the court that the state was not opposed to the accused being granted bail on conditions that were proposed by the prosecution.

Justice Zibani Makhwade granted Solomon bail on condition that he binds himself with P2,000 and bring two sureties who shall each bind themselves with the same amount.

Makhwade continued: “The accused shall attend every court session as and when required to do so and shall not interfere with the state witnesses. He shall also report himself to Kutlwano police station every Monday and Friday between working hours.

“He shall also report to the station commander of Kutlwano police every time he wants to go out of Francistown and he shall surrender his passport to the station commander of Kutlwano police station. In addition, he shall not apply for a new passport until this matter is finalised,” said Makhwade.

Bedu Masole from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) represented the state in the matter. Solomon will appear before the Francistown Magistrates Court on June 19 for status report on the matter.
