Masisi will be inaugurated on a Sunday

Briefing the media today, Kokorwe said despite it being a holiday, Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi will be inaugurated on April 1, 2018.

As leaders vacating office goes, the late president, Ketumile Masire stepped down as national leader on a Tuesday being on March 31, 1998 and Festus Mogae was sworn in on a Wednesday, while in 2008 it was on a Monday with Khama taking office on a Tuesday. 

“The constitution does not provide for a vacuum and we shall be here on that Sunday which will also be a holiday for the inauguration of the incoming president.  Our staff is working around the clock preparing for the event,” she said, clearing any confusion in some quarters of the nation with some people alleging that it could not happen on a non-working day.

Still at the briefing, Kokorwe announced that Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is scheduled for a state visit on February 12, 2018, would also address Parliament in the afternoon.

Kokorwe also told the press that Gaborone North legislator, Haskins Nkaigwa, finally resigned from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and joined the Alliance for Progressives (AP).
