Revellers Disappointed At Homecoming Appreciation Party

The concert followed the Home Coming main event, which is held annually on December 24 in Mahalapye.

Termed a Night of Gqom as the event featured South African group Distruction Boyz of Omunye fame, the concert attracted a rather low turnout, which was disappointing when coupled with the performance of most DJs on the bill.

It was Distruction Boyz's first performance in Botswana. They are currently one of the most trending performers with their songs, Memeza and Omunye Phezu Komunye.

The event, which was scheduled to start at 4pm showed no signs of commencing by midnight. Night crawlers, who were eager for entertainment and had hoped to get value for their money, were starting to doubt if the main act would be available to perform.

The same DJ who had kept the crowd awake from 9pm played until past midnight when DJ Sly took over. Murmurs from frustrated fans could be heard as they expressed their concern that they have been cheated. The organisers had also failed to follow the time schedule.

It was only around 1am that Dramaboi took to the stage much to the relieve of most people who were now raising suspicion that the organisers used false advertising to lure them to the event. Dramaboi dished song after song, with the crowd singing along which showed how eager they were to have a performance at the time.

At the gate, a few could be seen trying to sell their tickets because they felt no need to get inside. Tickets were sold at P80 for the event. After Dramaboi's performance it was back to square one, with the DJs trying hard to keep revellers entertained.

Just when many had concluded that the South African act would not turn up, the crew emerged escorted by three security guards, much to the delight of revellers who were just about to give up.

Even though they carry so much hype, Distruction Boyz’s performance was nothing out of the ordinary. The crew who has made the Gqom kind of music trend in recent times failed to live up to expectations. Overall, it was not a good show to appreciate the success of the big and popular Home Coming Concert.
