Rewarding hobby in nail polish

The 15ml bottled VMM nail polish gel, which has been on the market since last month, was manufactured in Thailand.

According to Moleleki, it was in 2011 during one of her visits to Thailand that she met some beauty therapists who produce a wide range of beauty products.

“Everything started that time. I was inspired by what those guys do and got their contacts. Later, I contacted them and proposed to them that I want to have my own brand. They approved and agreed to help me manufacture my own products and we agreed to start with the nail polish gel,” she said.

The persistent Moleleki said the reception has been well and would soon launch other beauty products under her brand including acrylic mixed with gel nail polish just to mention a few.

Her business also does bridal make-up, manicures, pedicures, facial treatments as well as tutorials for aspiring beauty therapists.

“The nice part is that the people who are now my biggest customers are the same ones I mentored, which really excites me and motivates me to tutor as I believe in empowering other people,” she said.

Narrating her story, Moleleki said it was during her university days where she would usually use her spare time to do her nails that she had an idea to provide the service. “Other students admired what I was doing and started asking me to do their nails as well. It was after graduating when I then decided to go and enrol for a beauty course at South Africa in Johannesburg,” she said.

After graduation, Moleleki said she then started to do nails for her friends and neighbours before coming back to Botswana to start a company which did nails, pedicures and manicures in 2008. Five years later the determined Moleleki then started a beauty parlour, VMM Beauty, as she realised a gap in the market.

“I looked around and saw that most people love to always look the part and since I got that skills why not make it professional and start a business that can help in that regard. I have always wanted to have my own brand and used this opportunity to do so,” she said.

Moleleki told Monitor Business that the industry is growing at a satisfactory pace noting that she is happy to be part of the transformation.
