Since the public criticism of his employers, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) on Saturday, there were increasing signs the Englishman was on his way out.

Yesterday Butler was conspicuous by his absence at the Zebras training session, with Boyo ‘Oris’ Radipotsane taking charge on an interim basis.

Butler confirmed his departure late yesterday.

“I have met the president of the association (Maclean Letshwiti) and we have parted ways amicably. I have to state that he is a great, honourable man and we bear no grudges and share the same sentiments.

I would like to thank the President of the country, Ian Khama and his office. They have been very supportive of me and my team, I cannot thank them enough.

Thanks to the sports ministry, the honourable minister (Thapelo) Olopeng and his team, the technical team, and the players who have been fantastic.

Special thanks to the wonderful people of Botswana, I loved my time here especially the wonderful people of Francistown. You will all be forever in my heart,” he said.

BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane confirmed they had parted ways with Butler and wished him all the best in future.

The u-turn came just minutes after both Butler and BFA had maintained that the coach was still in charge yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Platinum Stars said Butler is being considered for the vacant head coach post after the Rustenburg-based side parted ways with coach, Calvin Johnson.

Butler is amongst a host of coaches being considered to fill in the void.

Platinum Stars general manager, Senzo Mazingiza told Mmegi Sport that Butler had been interviewed for the head coach’s job but there was no agreement in place.

“Yes, Butler is being considered for the job. (However), there is no agreement in place,” Mazingiza said.

The coach also confirmed that there was nothing agreed although talks have been held. Butler is said to have another interview lined up at Bloemfontein Celtic.
