Chimbombi resigned from public service in October 2015.  Mmegi has learnt that the 58-year-old might contest in BNF parliamentary primaries in Kgalagadi South. The BNF will welcome over 50 members this weekend at their Tsabong rally.

“It is true I have recently joined the BNF. Our aim as a party is to re-claim Kgalagadi South.  The BNF is strong in this area and we had made sure that all its structures are in place. There is no way a party could win elections if their party structures are not in place. This constituency is winnable. I cannot deny or confirm that I am contesting because I have not thought about it,” Chimbombi said.

In 2014, Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had won the constituency by 6,824 votes while Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) got 5,006 votes. In 2009 the constituency was in the hands of theBNF, which is an affiliate of the UDC.
