Autlwetse dumps BDP

Initially, Autlwetse and five other Young Turks were given a 60-day suspension last year.  The two-year suspension was imposed on them after a disciplinary hearing recently.

This was after the members were found guilty of “misconduct and bringing the party into disrepute”.

The ruling party suspended Autlwetse, Onneile Segwai, Bruce Nkgakile, Thatayaone Serema, Bonang Morapedi, Kitso Mazebedi, Sekano Bodio and Patience Kaego. Kabo Ketshogile, who was suspended, resigned before the disciplinary hearing took place.

“It’s true I have found a new political home, which I am not yet prepared to disclose the name until all necessary process is made.  I left because BDP is a party for the elite with no clear intention of empowering youth.  There is only room for bootlickers and praise singers whose only role is to pave the way for those anointed by their parents for leadership.  I don’t see the need to inform the BDP,” Autlwetse said.

The NYEC is a committee of 18.  The suspended members had challenged NYEC to call for special congress since two had resigned from the committee and another one having had jumped ship before the hearing making that total of nine.

Their argument was that the party constitution says the remaining members or party cannot co-opt more than a third of its total membership on article 16.10.

It says “in the event of vacancies requiring to be filled exceeding one-third, an extraordinary congress relevant to that organ shall be convened as soon as reasonably practicable for the purpose of only election to fill the vacancies in question”.
