The player excelled in his first season in the elite league for Gaborone United (GU) and has been rewarded with a call up to the senior national team.

His agent, Olebile Sikwane confirmed that Orebonye and two other players, Thatayaone Kgamanyane and Anthony Gouws are set to try their luck in the PSL. Gouws is expected to leave for trials at Highlands Park this month while Kgamanyane will try his luck at Maritzburg United.

Both Kgamanyane and Orebonye will leave after the Zebras’ participation at this year’s COSAFA Cup. “Yes it is true they will attend trials in South Africa. Kgamanyane and Orebonye will leave after the COSAFA Cup because we do not know how far the Zebras will go in the tournament,” he said.

There were rumours that Orebonye had requested a transfer after rivals, Township Rollers put in an offer but Sikwane said he was not aware of Rollers’ interest.

He said at the moment, as his agent, he has not received any offer from “Popa” for the player. “Rollers are not on the table. I have not received anything from them up to this point.

He just had a very good season and I think this is an opportunity for him to show the PSL that what he did last season was not a fluke.” He said the player is still contracted to GU for a year and believes they will not allow a situation where they could lose him for free next season rather than cash on him now.

GU have also stated that they will not stand in the player’s way if offers come, particularly from South Africa. “He is still young and if he gets an offer especially in South Africa like Kgaswane (Mpho), that would be an opportunity for him to go and learn while he still has the chance,” GU secretary, City Senne said yesterday.

He also shot down reports of interests from some local clubs including Rollers. He said for now, they have not received anything official from any local club for the player.
