The tag line for the world cup is “Feel the hype, it’s almost time” as Botswana counts down to a historic first ever world netball event on African soil. But Reikeletseng admits the hype has been missing and wants to see a turn around in the next 20 or so days.

“In terms of the technical aspect of organisation, we have done a good job behind the scenes to ensure that the nation is not embarrassed. What we are behind in, is creating the hype. The event should be on everybody’s lip, like we have done before (when hosting other sporting events),” Reikeletseng said.

“What we have done is that we have prepared looking inward, and forgot outward. I think we have neglected the hype. We have scheduled meetings to see what we can do to improve the hype in the coming days.”

Reikeletseng said by now, every Motswana should be on board and be aware that the country is hosting the World Cup, which kicks off on July 8.

“We need billboards, merchandise and banners, I know budget is an issue but we can do better. We were so nervous about hosting the World Cup such that we focused on technical issues. We over prepared internally,” he said, assuring that, besides the hype, the country is more than ready to welcome the world.

Botswana host the World Cup from July 8 to 16 with 20 countries, including Australia and England, competing.

The Botswana team has had a rigorous training programme, which took the national team to Australia and Singapore as part of preparations.

The games would be screened live on Btv in High Definition (HD).
