Man kills attacker with a fist

“The deceased was chasing the accused wielding a screwdriver and he (accused) met a police van while on the run. The accused told them that a man wanted to kill him, but the police dismissed him as a drunkard. He later stopped running and punched the deceased who then fell to the ground,” a source said.

It is said that the man then saw the same police van again and told them what had happened, but they ignored him once again. “He then ferried the deceased to the hospital where he was certified dead,” the source said.

Superintendent, Mothusi Phadi, of Central Police Station confirmed the incident, and the fact that the accused has been granted bail.

He said their investigations are still ongoing.

“We are investigating a case in which a 23-year-old Zimbabwean man killed another in Maruapula on Saturday. The two are said to have had a misunderstanding and we are awaiting post mortem results to confirm the cause of death,” he said.

Phadi dismissed claims that police officers could ignore a report coming to them. He urged the public to take necessary action to prevent a crime from happening before their eyes.

Phadi said the accused person was arraigned on Monday and would appear again on May 15.
