Dibotelo on Tuesday left the audience in stitches when he praised the dog for being a true hero in the fight against crime.

In his praise for the dog and the police, Dibotelo said the police upping of the fight against crime, pouncing unannounced on crime scenes, is bearing fruit.

“Following surveillance and intelligence gathering as well as parading suspects in the public glare on national television, using this strategy police have arrested many suspects, recovered many unaccounted goods,” he said when opening legal year in Gaborone.

Dibotelo commended the police for upping their game and assured the nation that the courts will continue to impose deterrent and exemplary sentences on those convicted of offences.

On the account of delay in committal of offenders to the High Court especially those charged with murder, Dibotelo said it was a worrying trend.

He gave an example of the 19-year-old Keodiretse Tlhofaetsi who last week raised tempers for allegedly killing his 21-year-old girlfriend while on bail for another girlfriend murder.

“It is worth noting that even though this offence was allegedly committed in 2016, even now the accused person has not been committed for trial by the High Court,” he noted.
