Hit after hit: Butler has a sharp 'Twitter' tongue

* “#BFA the dinosaur Bright is destroying what WE not ME built over 3 years - calling old players is a travesty for the National Team #disgrace.”

Butler twitted last August, just two months after he had left his job and David Bright came in. The Englishman accused Bright of calling old players into the national side, a contrast to his preferred young blood. Bright did not retaliate, with Butler recently saying it was the former Santos coach who had triggered the war of words.

* Butler late last month, attacked the Botswana Football Association (BFA) claiming its president, Maclean Letshwiti owed his win over Tebogo Sebego to Nicholas Zakhem who had poured in considerable amounts to run the presidential campaign.

“It's no secret Letshwiti took Zakhem’s money; got elected then dumped him for the cronies around him today who influence him- no wonder Zakhem feels aggrieved, wouldn’t you? Letshwiti would not be where he is today if it was not for Nic Zakhem supporting him financially. Zac was instrumental in his campaign politically and financially. I am made to believe they no longer speak.”

Both Letshwiti and Zakhem dismissed Butler, but the cat had already been set amongst the pigeons.

At one stage, Butler was interested in the BFA technical director’s post and had said he was in talks with Letshwiti. However, Butler later attacked Letshwiti on Twitter and said he was weak, and that his predecessor, Tebogo Sebego was a better leader.

* While Butler has largely won his lopsided Twitter attacks, he finally met his match in Dragojlo ‘Drago’ Stanojlovic recently. After Butler questioned Drago’s appointment as Under-20 coach, the Serbian did not take kindly to the criticism.

“So BFA hire Serbian hit men now to coach their next generation of youngsters. Oh my, I fear for the future,” Butler tweeted.

In leaked messages, Drago threatened to kill Butler.

“You destroyed football in Botswana. Come to Botswana to kill you like a dog,” Drago said.

* “I don’t get involved in petty issues with clubs management trying to create hysteria, like it or lump it and get on with it, thats life” Butler tweeted in June 2015, following criticism over the omission of then Mochudi Centre Chiefs midfielder, Lesego Galenamotlhale.

Chiefs were so incensed that they demanded an apology from Butler, saying he had disrespected the player.

* “He (Nare) will not be working in my technical team. Over my dead body!” This was after reports linking Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare with the Zebras assistant coach’s job. Then BFA technical director, Ben Kgomela was said to be behind the move to bring in Nare, which, however, never materialised.

“Kgomela should concentrate on youth and schools programs because over the last two years, what has he done for the BFA. Nothing!”

* “Really disappointed not to get to SSKB today to watch the game No Transport when will this nonsense stop i’m getting frustrated.” The BFA had not secured a vehicle for Butler, and he was getting frustrated. At one stage, he was involved in a road accident near the University of Botswana, while cycling to work.
