National assets unsafe in selfish Khamas Cabinet

Just recently, it was revealed how he released a Presidential Directive Cab 12 (A) 2017 ordering his Cabinet to deliver Air Botswana to Wilderness Safaris Holdings.

It has been reported over the years that Khama has shares in one of Wilderness Safaris’ subsidiary companies.

Fortunately after some pressure, after some careful deliberation, we are told, the company decided not to pursue the matter any further.

It therefore, withdrew its Expression of Interest and advised the government of its decision. Remember, our national airliner was given to Khama’s affiliated company on a silver platter.

Why the Cabinet will abet and aid Khama on this daylight robbery, we don’t know.

One thing is clear. Cabinet is full of lily-livered cowards who will do anything to appease their demigod.  Nobody in that Cabinet can stand up to Khama and say enough is enough. Ours is a Cabinet of men and women who are political eunuchs. Whatever Khama asks for, the eunuch Cabinet yields without much ado.

Khama has this lame duck Cabinet under his vice grip. If he wants his Government to give him the national airliner free of charge, he just delivers his famous Presidential Directive.

In fact, since coming to power more than nine years ago, the number one citizen has been running the government with one directive after another.

It is safe to assume that his style of governance is centred around issuances of misguided directives.

It has been reported that his Wilderness Holdings did not qualify during the adjudication because they did not meet some requirements in the Expression of Interest. Two other bidders who scored highest marks than Wilderness Holdings were overlooked because Khama had his sights on capturing Air Botswana for himself.  It is common knowledge that Khama’s family have vast business interests in the tourism industry, hence he wanted to filch Air Botswana. It is not only Air Botswana under siege. The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) is also going the Air Botswana way; that is rushed privatisation.

The reason provided by the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security is that they want to kill the monopoly in the beef industry. What a lame excuse! If they want to kill the monopoly why not allow other interested private players to compete against the BMC?

It is a matter of months before all the national assets are hastily privatised and only the fat cats with access to leadership will benefit from the deals.

If that happens the current Cabinet is to blame. We can no longer trust them to safeguard our national assets. They have proven to be poor leaders.
