Eight BDP cadres face charges

Some members have already appeared before the disciplinary hearing while others will appear on June 26 and 28 respectively. Their charges range from contravening the party regulations and bringing the party’s name into disrepute.

“The reason why some members have not yet appeared is because cases are being dealt with in the sequence in which they came. As a result their case dates have not been set yet. Once they have been, then they will appear.

Eight people are suspended for 60 days at the moment, and the internal processes will duly take place,” said Ame Makoba, the BDP deputy executive secretary.  Makoba said only one judgement has been delivered, but refused to share the details of the judgement and name of the person involved.  However Mmegi has learnt that Joseph ‘Twoboy’ Matseka has been found guilty and suspended for two years.

“As much as we don’t expect them to engage the media, we reserve the announcement of the names to safeguard internal processes. Judgements cannot be pre-empted until cases are duly seen through,” he said.  According to a source, the suspensions have divided members as some feel that the Mokgweetsi Masisi team is using its powers or influence against those who support Nonofo Molefhi.

“Some of the complaints that some councillors are suspended on really do not carry weight. In politics people are meant to differ and issues should be discussed openly without compromising anyone.  Some people are simply suspended on issues that were raised either during the region congress or words uttered at the National Council. Some are using certain structures to fight for the people they support for the party congress scheduled in July,” the source said.
