Kgosimpe School tops in Debswana awards

The awards attracted 24 primary schools and four secondary schools in Jwaneng/Mabutsane region who battled with quality pass of grade A to B. Ruri Pheko from Kgosimpe paved way for his school by walking away with P6,000 after winning the best in English and Science.

Lone Nthomang from the same school added the cherry on top by emerging the best student in the region, bagging P5,000 cash, a trophy and a certificate. Three teachers from Kgosimpe; Keemenao Monare, Prudence Moepi and Ontlametse Keipeile, scooped best teachers awards and walked away with P10,000, P7,500 and P5,000 respectively.

Kgosimpe emerged victorious in the secondary schools category bagging a whopping P50,000 in cash. Morama JSS from Jwaneng got position two while Maiteko JSS from Mabutsane was third, winning P30,000 and P20,000 cash respectively.

Under the primary schools category, Sekoma Primary beat other primary schools while Jwana and Dinonyane from Jwaneng scoped position two and three respectively. According to the Jwaneng Mine corporate social investment chairperson Dr Mwamba Nsebula, the mine took a decision to reward academic excellence both in students and teachers who have proved to be catalyst of transformation.

He commended the students for showing discipline and teachers for their compassion and displaying a competitive spirit adding that stakeholder’s support was crucial to help the students to achieve their dreams.

“These awards will run for three years and it will be reviewed based on the desired outcome. As Debswana, we want to leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of the community we live in and we continue to channel money towards that,” Dr Nsebula said.

The Jwaneng Mine general manager Albert Milton also noted that the 2016 academic year was a good one as the region attained position three nationally in both junior and primary schools. He encouraged the students to continue with the spirit of resilience, persistence and determination as well as good behaviour.

“Through the Diamond Dream Academic Awards, Jwaneng Mine commit to sustainable development and believe that through empowering learners and teachers directly these awards will go a long way towards improving education in this region and indeed the whole country,” Milton said.

Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse also commended Jwaneng Mine for the noble gesture and encouraged learners to take advantage of the awards to be motivated and improve in the 2017 examination. He applauded the mine for going beyond the areas closer to them thus covering most primary schools in the region.
