UDC mourns a revolutionary par excellence

Toivi ya Toivo

Toivi ya Toivo

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of Cde Herman Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, the people of Namibia, Southern Africa and the continent as a whole on the death of this illustrious freedom fighter.

Africa is not independent yet, because of persisting imperialist domination, poverty and looting of its resources. We remain poor in the land of plenty because exploitation by a handful of national and foreign operatives whose sole aim is to enrich themselves at the expense of the majority. This we believe is not what men like Toivo ja Toivo fought for.

He sacrificed his life to fight against oppression and justice for all. He was arrested and imprisonment in Robben Island for 16 years in the same section as former President Nelson Mandela for fighting for freedom and  true national independence.

Real independence but not flag/national anthem independence. He was released in 1984 and stayed in Lusaka where he continued with his activism only to return to Namibia, a year before his country attained independence in 1990. He was a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister and quit active politics in 2006.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
