Kutlwano fall in Tunisia

The club failed to proceed to the second round after finishing last in Pool C where they were competing against Mugher Cement (Ethiopia), Zamalek and Ah Ahly both of Egypt and Etoile Du Sahel (Tunisia).

Kutlwano only managed a single win against Cement in the first game in which they triumphed 3-1. They lost by identical 3-0 margins to the two Egyptian sides. Kutlwano who were making their debut in the competition after being crowned VI champions.

Though they were knocked out in the group stages, the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) spokesperson, Godfrey Mudongo said it is not a bad showing considering that Kutlwano was making its debut at the tournament.

He said the team competed against professional sides but managed to win some sets. 'That they managed to win some sets means that they were also fighting and that is a step in the right direction,' Mudongo said.

Meanwhile Sfax of Algeria and record holders Al Ahly of Egypt were expected to meet in the first semi-final yesterday while defending champions Zamalek played Bourj Bouarrirj of Algeria in the second semi-final.

Etoile du Sahel, Chlef (Algeria), Ahli Tripoli (Libya) and Prisons of Kenya will battle it out for positions five to eight. Winners of the championship will represent Africa at the Premier Club tournament to be held in Qatar later this year.
