Modenga has over the past years been in and out of the accused dock.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor for Moselewapula ward in Francistown faced several counts of obtaining by false pretences.

In the first count he pretended to be an employee of the Department of Road, Transport and Safety (DRTS) in order to obtain P1,400 from one Talent Chepanda claiming that his vehicle had defects.

In the second count, it was alleged that on May 18, 2017 still in Gaborone, Modenga obtained money amounting to P1,350 from Mmoniemang Motsamai pretending to be an employee of the DRTS, claiming that he was going to book a road test for her son knowing that it was not true.

In the fourth count, he was accused of defrauding the same Motsamai of clothes worth P6,800 on May 18, 2017 pretending that he was going to sell them on her behalf to his colleagues.

This week, prosecutor Inspector Oamogetswe Gaboutlwelwe withdrew all the charges against Modenga in his absentia, telling the court that the investigating officer has told her that the accused has paid back the money to the people he allegedly defrauded.
