Kgathi (23) of Broadhurst is charged alongside Tumisang Tlhaelang (24), Kgosietsile Dihutso (25), both Phakalane residents and Alphious Raditladi (25) of Block 5. They face a single count of unlawful possession of the substance believed to be habit-forming cocaine.

Details of the case are that at least 41 packages were allegedly confiscated during their arrest, which took place on October 12 last year at a police roadblock in Pitsane.

The four were arrested on transit from South Africa where the substance was allegedly purchased.  Eleven packages were in the form of blocks, which were sealed inside a biscuit container, whilst 30 were inside a snack container.

The four accused were granted conditional bail on their first day in court on the basis that they are Batswana citizens and they will be easily traceable in case they attempt to abscond.

After a brief mention in which accused persons were not present, prosecutor in the case Mogomotsi Selebaleng briefly said the case was held inside the chambers because there was no court reporter.

“The case was held in the chambers because there was no court reporter. Trial has been postponed and it will be held on September 12th and 13th,” she briefly said.

Attorney Kgosietsile Ngakaagae represents the accused persons.
