Highly placed sources close to the development told Mmegi that the meeting, which was scheduled to end with a Press Conference at 4pm, could not end on time as the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) wants the upcoming congress to be ‘consultative’ while the other parties want it to be ‘decisive’.

'It was a burning issue,” said the source.

Another source however claims that the issue was eventually resolved by “deferring it to the congress to decide on it”.

The other contentious issue was Botswana People’s Party (BPP) matter about increasing their allocated constituencies.

Reports indicate that the meeting was attended by delegates from the UDC partners led by their leaders including, Botswana National Front President (BNF) Duma Boko, Botswana Congress Party (BCP)’s Dumelang Saleshando, BMD’s Sydney Pilane and Mbaakanyi Lenyatso from the BPP.

UDC mouthpiece Moeti Mohwasa declined to comment on the contentious issues and only stated that the meeting was part of preparations for the congress.

'We were talking issues ahead of the congress. We will host a dinner on Thursday 22, 2018, congress on Friday and launch on Saturday. Also we resolved to issue a statutory notice to government. We are taking them to task over the P250 million that was illegally withdrawn from the National Petroleum Fund,' he said.

Mohwasa also disclosed that the deadline for submitting congress’ delegates list was extended to next week Tuesday.
