Marotela wins Miss Valentine Thamaga

She was followed by Kopano Mokgadi while in third position was Gorata Monnane.

The queen received a brand new washing machine,  while her runner-up was awarded a dressing table and the second princess walked away with a Flat TV Screen.

The other contestants received hair dryers as consolation prizes. There were 12 contestants from the different wards of Thamaga. The beautiful young women presented five creative parades and amongst them a dance piece that entirely mesmerised the audience and got them cheering even louder.

The main objective of the annual competition is to bring together the youth of Thamaga, celebrate love as well as nurture and discover talent. The founder and chairperson of Catch Your Dream Youth Organisation, Tiego Mosana said that they offer live shows and activities that promote self-reliance and volunteerism amongst the youth.

“This village is identified with a bad reputation due to the gangs that once befell us. Our organisation therefore aims to restore the dignity of this village and keep the youth from negative behaviours,” he stated.

The judging panel consisted of Rakgadi Mokaba, Oaitse Maphuru, Refilwe Disele and Tshepiso Sephatla. The judging criteria was based on confidence, smile and eye contact displayed by the contestants. The other elements included the attire, walk as well as creativity.

The youthful event was graced by the presence of Kagiso Morebodi who is the founder of Remmogo Youth Organisation.

 Local artists were given the opportunity to showcase their talent too. Some of the performers that highlighted the event were Brian, Flexville, Tizah BW, Alil Boy, Jozi Kings, Tape Music Empire and Sick Mastaz. Mark Hardware, Bahumi Investments, Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies, GOFUL Pty Ltd, Madirelo Brick Welding, 4Y Bottle Store, Sana Hardware and Thatayaone Gotlhokwang sponsored the event.

Thatayaone Motlokwa who is an arts coordinator pointed out in his closing remarks that the motive behind this event is to unearth youth talent and bring people together.

“We want to promote the spirit of togetherness and celebrate love. We also give thanks to our sponsors who saw it fit to assist us,” he said.
