The hearing is scheduled for next Sunday at the party headquarters in Gaborone.

Segokgo was suspended more than a month ago and he has been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee to face eight charges related to undermining the BMD’s constitution.

Segokgo was suspended along with other seven BMD members, amongst them president Ndaba Gaolathe and his deputy Wynter Mmolotsi. He is the first to be called for a hearing.

The suspended members belong to a camp that has been dubbed the Ndaba/Mmolotsi faction.

Early this week, BMD chairperson Nehemiah Modubule told Mmegi that Segokgo has been summoned to appear for a hearing.

His suspended colleagues are expected to appear for their respective hearings at varying times, which are yet to be announced.

“I will not attend the hearing. I would be legitimising the suspension and the disciplinary process if I attend the hearing. It is a Kangaroo court,” Segokgo spat out yesterday in an interview. Segokgo said it was clear the disciplinary hearing had been organised to expel him from the party. He added that on the day of the hearing, he will be in Maun on a party assignment.

“In fact, I will be with the party president and his deputy,” he said.

Segokgo said the July congress would decide his fate along with the suspended members. Ndaba’s faction has always maintained that it will not recognise the suspensions, calling them ‘unconstitutional’. The faction was suspended for allegedly defying the party’s National Working Committee decision, which directed them not to attend the BMD youth league congress, held in Ramotswa in April.

Modubule leads a faction that spearheaded the suspensions of Ndaba’s team. For sometime, both factions have been battling to gain control of vital organs of the party. Most of the eight charges against Segokgo border on the activities at the Ramotswa congress.

The suspended group had also said that it would not attend the hearings because the BMD does not have a disciplinary committee. However, Modubule disputed their claims in an interview earlier this week though he declined to elaborate.
