LOC ready to host the world for the netball event

Speaking during a media engagement workshop held on Tuesday, head of operations, Neo Bulayani said they will make sure that the day-to-day operations of the event run smoothly.

“We oversee the technical part of the sport and ensure that the games are conducted in accordance with the International Netball Federation (INF) standards. The group works on the prescribed INF events manual and we have been doing a tremendous job to meet the international standards,” Bulayani said. She added that from their part they are ready to host 70 games. The games will be played in two venues, the University of Botswana Indoor Arena and Ditshupo Hall, which also meet the international standards.

The visiting teams will use other venues such as Botswana Netball Association courts, UB outdoor Courts and Maruapula School and Molapo Indoor Sport Hall for training. She said each team will be given two hours per  day to use the venues so that they allow others to also get the chance to train.

The LOC long kicked off their preparations and have since managed to recruit volunteers and searched for sponsorship. They have already raised P1.2 million to assist in running the games.

For his part the general manager, Tebogo Kesupile said they have arranged all that is necessary for the games to begin. The LOC will have the trophy tour from the June 21-30 in several areas around the country in trying to increase the hype around the games. They will soon paint the city with billboards in another attempt to create awareness and excitement around the event.

The theme song for the games was officially released on Tuesday, which comprises various local artists ATI, Katlego Ntirang, Mpho Sebina and Flex. The song contains the rhythm of an African music with drums and clapping of hands and contains inspirational and motivational lyrics.
