When Khama recently came to bid Palapye farewell, he was given some fencing material adequate to fence a six by six kilometers ranch.

Simulation of a ranch was erected within the confines of the Palapye kgotla to display the materials in use.

On the model there was a signage that read “This Ranch belongs to Lt Gen Dr. SKI Khama…” and the signage picture that made rounds in different social media platforms caused some quarters of the nation to believe that the community of Palapye gave the President a gift of the ranch.

LOC vice chairperson Patrick Moeti who was tasked with delivering the gift to Khama has cleared the misunderstanding.

Moeti said they did not give the President the ranch neither did they say the president was given a Ranch by anyone.

He said instead they had envisioned Khama being given the ranch by a Good Samaritan in the future.

“Acting on that dream, we bought the President fencing materials for the ranch so that when and if someone gives him a land he would conviniently have the material in place to fence,” Moeti said.

He explained that the fencing material that the community of Palapye bought for the President is worth P253, 981,65, and alongside they gave him gifts of four cows, four goats, two horses, three chickens and P30,000 cash.

The other gifts of an electric bicycle and a P25,000 cash came from Botswana Power Corporation and Botswana University of Science and Technology respectively.
