In an interview with Mmegi, the Botswana Police Service (BPS) spokesperson, Dipheko Motube said the police are in hot pursuit for Adolphius Mogakolodi Legae (23) of Kanye.  “Legae is currently on bail on cases of rape and armed robbery he had committed earlier on.

Whilst on bail he committed five cases of rape and armed robbery,” Motube said. Motube appealed to the public for any information that could help in arresting the fugitive.  He also advised members of the public to approach him with caution as he is suspected to be armed.

He said they suspect that Legae and his partner, Mogomotsi Thupane (34) of Moshupa are likely to have been involved in an incident in which a woman of Kanye was allegedly shot on the night of May 31. “Investigations on this matter are ongoing, especially that the woman did not report the matter to the police hence I cannot comment any further,” Motube said.

Motube added that they suspect that Legae might also help them with investigations on a rape case that occurred at Gaborone West between May 31 and June 1.

He stated that Thupane was recently arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies, rape and shooting incidents that have been taking place in Gaborone and the Southern District recently. Motube said the duo is suspects in an armed robbery case at Saverite supermarket at Moshupa that occurred between May 31 and June 1 where they walked away with undisclosed amount of money.

He said P38,000 in cash and a vehicle suspected to have been used by the suspects were recovered following the arrest of Thupane at Gaborone West location on Friday.

Motube however, declined to disclose the model of the car stating that investigations on the matter are still at an initial stage. For a while now, reports have been circulatiing of thieves terrorising in Gaborone with a blue Honda Fit vehicle.  It is reported that these thieves target motorists during peak hours on the busy Gaborone roads.

The thieves would suddenly open cardoors, or snatch their valuables through the window and then run to the get-away Fit strategically parked some distance away. Mmegi is informed that these thieves have a tendency of walking in between cars in traffic to commit their criminal acts.

Both Legae and Thupane are on bail, and whilst on bail Thupane had 11 cases of armed robbery pending before court.  Thupane appeared before Kanye Magistrate’s Court yesterday facing one count of armed robbery.
